DHL Information
Whether you call them car lifts, auto lifts, vehicle lifts, garage lifts, hoists or other, their main purpose is for lifting cars and trucks for service or storage. Each auto lift design or model serves its own distinctive purpose which is why careful consideration must be made prior to the purchase of any automotive lifts.
Two-Post above ground lifts are frame contact styles which allow for virtually all service capabilities and leave wheels unobstructed for brake work, tire repairs etc. Four-Post lifts are drive on “runway” type vehicle lifts similar to those seen in muffler shops or quick lubes. Although four-post styles are convenient to use, without the proper accessory jacks, wheel service is difficult. Four-post lifts are a preferred choice for residential or commercial parking applications.
Lifting capacity should be carefully considered before making any auto lift purchase. In most cases, upgrading to a heavier lifting capacity is a minimal investment. Usually, money saved by choosing a lighter duty lift is quickly lost when having to turn business away.
Asymmetric two-post models feature rotated columns and long rear arms that position the elevated vehicle farther back allowing you to open the vehicle doors fully without contacting the column. Standard two-post lifts feature four equal length arms which centers the vehicle at the column near the vehicle center of gravity. Although there is still ample room to open vehicle doors on standard two-post lifts, it is simply more difficult to get full-opening of the doors.
Specialty vehicle lifts such as scissors lifts, four-post alignment lifts, low-rise lifts, mid-rise lifts and specialty parking lifts have specific applications and should be considered before making a selection.
